1. Challenge resolution: how to solve a wicked problem

Many businesses face challenges that seem insolvable, sometimes referred to as 'wicked problems'. These can prevent business development, or, worse, lead to the collapse of your vision. We have designed a powerful five stage process that will transform your ability to achieve radical new thinking, empowering you to tackle the most difficult issues facing your business. Discover how to break through the glass ceilings that constrain you at present.

The anatomy of the problem: Understanding the spatial architecture of the problem is central to finding meaningful solutions.  How is the problem constructed? What are the key elements and where are they negatively interacting with your business structure? We have designed a rapid architectural analysis system that allows you to rapidly and logically understand the anatomy of the challenge.

The physiology of the problem: Understanding the temporal aspects of the problem is equally important. How did this problem emerge? How has it changed through time? Is it likely to change in the future? In order to meet the challenges posed, you need solutions that are flexible enough to match changes in the problems. We use a unique problem physiology exposure system to qualify and quantify temporal elements to the challenge.

Expanding solution space: This key stage is often overlooked.  Before attacking the problem, it is worth assessing the limits to the solution space available, and expanding these.  Using our Functional Management Approach (FUNCMAP), we can show you very simple, effective ways to massively increase your organizations solution potential. This will hugely increase your ability to maximally utilize the skill sets within your organization.

Diffusional thinking: Now you are ready to use some basic thermodynamics to solve and resolve the wicked problem facing your organization. We will introduce you to diffusional thinking, a methodical, logical, repeatable process that takes the mystery out of idea generation.  Diffusional thinking relies on the innate skills within all of us, combining all of the people involved in the business and with the challenge. Having expanded the solution space, we know allow our creative potential to drive the diffusion of our ideas into that solution space.

Solution delivery and monitoring: Finally, we challenge the spatial and temporal architecture of the problem with our diffuse cloud of solutions in a simulation, rigorously testing aspects of the response in order to evaluate the potential outcome.  This is reiterated to the point where implementation can be confidently prepared and executed. Key indicators are developed to assess the progress made, feeding back into a model that clearly shows what aspects need altering and how. Details of our approach to indicator design and other aspects of this process are set out in our book, Sustainable Economics: Context, Challenges and Opportunities for the 21st-Century Practitioner.

Don’t let problems threaten the success of your organization.  Rather than relying on a Damascus Road experience, we provide you with a clear path to finding long-term, sustainable, workable solutions, empowering you and your staff to become superior problem solvers.
